The Squash Final Qualifier ahead of the LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Games (LA28) is set to take place in Seattle and Bellevue, USA, in June 2028.

Squash is making its Olympic debut at LA28, with 32 players鈥16 men and 16 women鈥搗ying to make sporting history across the men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 draws.

An all-glass court will be set up in Seattle to host the Squash Final Qualifier from June 6-10, 2028, with the PRO Club, in USA鈥檚 Washington State, hosting some of the early round matches of the event.

The tournament will consist of a men鈥檚 24-player draw and a women鈥檚 24-player draw. The winners of each draw will become the final squash athletes to qualify for LA28, with the other 15 players in each draw having already qualified via the major Continental Games, PSA World Rankings and the Universality Places.

The Squash Final Qualifier will be delivered via YSK Events, which has a long and successful history in squash on the West Coast, including the delivery of the Xbox PSA Squash Tour Finals in 2024 in Bellevue.

World Squash President Zena Wooldridge said: 鈥淲e鈥檙e delighted to be heading to Seattle and Bellevue for the Squash Final Qualifier. Squash is going from strength to strength in the United States and locating this unique event in squash鈥檚 history on the west coast ahead of our Olympic debut in Los Angeles is the perfect opportunity to accelerate the excitement leading into the Olympic squash programme at the Comcast Squash Center at Universal Studios just a few weeks later. This will be a wonderful setting for the 48 athletes to play out their Olympic dream as the final qualifiers for squash鈥檚 Olympic debut.鈥

Professional Squash Association (PSA) CEO Alex Gough said: 鈥淭he PSA Squash Tour is excited to continue partnering with YSK Events and supporting the delivery of the tournament. For many professional squash players, having a chance to qualify for the Olympics represents the culmination of a lifetime of effort, and I鈥檓 sure the tournament will be a spectacular event befitting this.鈥

鈥淗istory will be made over the next two years as the world鈥檚 top players battle to become the first squash Olympians,鈥 said Mollie Marcoux Samaan, 黑料不打烊 CEO. 鈥淔rom the first qualifying Continental Games in Asia this fall to Seattle and Bellevue in 2028, the excitement will be palpable. We are thrilled that the Seattle squash community will build on its passionate legacy of showcasing the professional game and we are confident they will provide the stage and celebration worthy of this momentous occasion.鈥

Shabana Khan, CEO and Founder of YSK Events, said: 鈥淗osting the final qualifying tournament for LA28 is a dream come true. This is about far more than hosting a sporting event, it is an opportunity to welcome the world to Seattle and Bellevue, represent the United States on the international stage, and be part of a historic moment for squash in our country. I am especially proud to carry forward the vision and passion of my father, Yusuf Khan, who dedicated so much of his life to growing squash and introducing the sport to new generations. His legacy is deeply connected to what this moment means to our family and to me. We are honored to welcome extraordinary athletes from around the world who have dedicated their lives to reaching the Olympic stage. For many, this tournament will represent the culmination of years of sacrifice, preparation, perseverance, and their final opportunity to earn a place at LA28. We are committed to creating an unforgettable event worthy of these athletes, while showcasing our community, our country, and the extraordinary future of squash as an Olympic sport.鈥

Further information about the Squash Final Qualifier, including draw, ticketing and broadcasting information, will be announced in due course.

The first qualification tournament for squash at the LA28 Olympic Games is the singles competition at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, which is taking place from 23-27 September 2026.

Egyptian duo Amina Orfi and Mostafa Asal have been crowned the 2026 CIB Palm Hills PSA World Champions as they claimed respective wins over compatriots Nour ElSherbini and Youssef Ibrahim on a historic night, May 16, at Golf Central Palm Hills in Giza, Egypt.

Orfi broke a number of records as she denied ElSherbini what would have been a record-breaking ninth PSA World Championships title. At the age of 18 years and 10 months, Orfi has become the youngest women鈥檚 World Champion in history after overcoming ElSherbini by a 6-11, 11-6, 11-9, 7-11, 14-12 scoreline following 106 minutes of nail-biting action.

It is the longest women鈥檚 World Championship match in history under the point-a-rally, first to 11 scoring format and the eighth longest professional women鈥檚 squash match of all time. Orfi–who eclipsed ElSherbini herself as the youngest woman to win the World Championships–also becomes the first woman to hold both the World Junior Championship and PSA World Championship titles at the same time.

The final win saw Orfi back up a 103-minute semi-final victory over World No.1 Hania El Hammamy, while it is her first major PSA trophy.

鈥淚’m speechless, I worked so hard to get here,鈥 Orfi said after capturing her 12th PSA title. 鈥淭his will add so much to my confidence. I鈥檓 speechless, I worked so hard and had so many tough losses this season. Up until this tournament, I was satisfied with what I had done, but I knew I could do better. I knew there was going to be pressure on both of them [El Hammamy and ElSherbini], Hania being World No.1 and Nour being a title away from breaking the record. I knew I had the least pressure and I went for it. I鈥檓 just so happy.鈥

Meanwhile, Asal has retained his title after a commanding victory over No.7 seed Youssef Ibrahim, winning 11-4, 11-1, 12-10. Ibrahim was appearing in his maiden World Championship final after battling past No.2 seed Paul Coll and No.4 seed Karim Abdel Gawad in the quarter-finals and semi-finals, despite his impending shoulder surgery next week.

However, the match against Asal was a step too far for the 27-year-old, who was unable to live with the pace and accuracy of the World No.1. Asal now has two World Championship titles to his name, while it is the 29th PSA Squash Tour title of his career.

“It feels amazing to win the World Championships in front of your family and friends,鈥 Asal said. 鈥淐redit to Youssef Ibrahim. To even be playing here with his shoulder injury, he鈥檚 superhuman. He鈥檚 a good friend of mine and we grew up together. It鈥檚 so hard, I got edgy in the third game, the pressure was on for sure. It鈥檚 never easy playing in Egypt to defend a world title. There鈥檚 so much pressure playing in front of everyone here.鈥

Team USA’s Olivia Weaver marked her second straight appearance in the PSA World Championships semifinals after a successful tournament. Weaver fell short against two seed El Sherbini in a closely contested match.

The Olympic Qualification System (OQS) for the squash competition at the Games of the XXXIV Olympiad, to be held July 15-24 2028, has been announced following approval by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Executive Board meeting at its meeting on February 1 in Milan, Italy.

The OQS will consist of five possible routes to qualification, : Continental Games, Host Country Quota, World Rankings, Universality Places and a Final World Qualifying Tournament.

In its Olympic debut in Los Angeles, the squash competition will see sixteen-athlete draws for men鈥檚 singles and women鈥檚 singles, staged at the Comcast Squash Center at Universal Studios.

The OQS was developed by World Squash and the Professional Squash Association (PSA) and aims to achieve an optimal balance between inclusion of the best athletes and representation of as many National Olympic Committees (NOCs) as possible across the sixteen athletes in each competition. A minimum of two and a maximum of three NOCs will receive a quota of two athletes per gender, ,听with all others receiving a quota of one.

Five athletes per gender will qualify via their respective Continental Games: The Asian Games (Nagoya, Japan, September 19-04听October 2026); the African Games (Cairo, Egypt, January 20-07 February 2027); the European Games (Istanbul, Turkey, June 2027); the Pan-American Games (Lima, Peru, July 16-01 August 2027); and the Pacific Games (Pirae, Tahiti, July 24-08 August 2027).

As host, the USA, via the US Olympic & Paralympic Committee, receives a quota of at least one athlete per gender,

A further eight athletes per gender will qualify based on their PSA World Ranking and one universality place per gender will be available to eligible NOCs.

The remaining one quota place per gender will be decided via a twenty-four-athlete final qualification tournament, to be held June 06-10, 2028.

鈥淲e are very conscious of the huge suspense and anticipation amongst athletes, coaches and federations regarding squash鈥檚 Olympic Qualification System, which reflects the excitement across the whole squash community for the sport鈥檚 Olympic debut,” said Zena Wooldridge, World Squash President.听 “For many, the Olympic dream will feel one step closer today, as squash stars around the world can begin plotting a course for a place in sporting history in Los Angeles. On behalf of World Squash and our PSA colleagues, I would like to express my thanks to our IOC colleagues for their support during this process. (L-R): Brad Snyder, Kassidy Cook, Jordan Burroughs

Introducing Olympic Wrestler Jordan Burroughs
Two-time Olympian Jordan Burroughs has dominated the mat since he started wrestling at the senior level in 2011. Upon entering the professional spotlight after a standout career at the University of Nebraska, which saw him earn two NCAA titles, Burroughs won 69 straight matches from 2011-14, setting a new U.S. record. In his Olympic debut in 2012, he earned a gold medal in the men鈥檚 74-kilogram class. Burroughs earned the distinction of U.S. Olympic Committee Male Olympic Athlete of the Year in 2015. A six-time world champion, Burroughs also has over 30 international championships and 190 career victories under his belt. Burroughs claimed his sixth鈥疨an American Wrestling Championships in 2023, securing back-to-back titles at 79kg.鈥疕e holds the record for the most Olympic and World Championships in American history and is considered one of the greatest freestyle wrestlers of all time.

Introducing Olympic Diver Kassidy Cook
Two-time Olympian Kassidy Cook is a standout diver for Team USA, specializing in the 3-meter springboard. Cook made her Olympic debut at Rio 2016, finishing 13th, before returning to Paris 2024, where she and partner Sarah Bacon earned a silver medal in the 3-meter synchronized springboard. Outside of her Olympic success, Cook found her best international finish at the 2015 Pan American Games where she claimed silver, and at the 2023 World Championships, where she placed fourth. A graduate of Stanford University, Cook led the Cardinal to two national championships and two Pac-12 championships, earning five All-American honors.

Introducing Paralympic Swimmer Brad Snyder
Retired Navy Lieutenant Brad Snyder lost his vision in an IED blast while supporting combat operations in Kandahar, Afghanistan, in September 2011. Snyder, who graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 2006 and captained the Navy swim team during the 2005-06 season, began swimming again while in rehabilitation. On the one-year anniversary of the IED blast that took his vision, Snyder raced to a Paralympic gold medal in the 400-meter freestyle at the Paralympic Games London 2012, winning the event by more than 25 seconds. He also collected gold in the 100m freestyle and silver in the 50m freestyle. Four years later, at the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio, he added gold medals in those same three events as well as a silver in the 100m backstroke. En route to his 100m freestyle gold, he broke a 30-year-old world record in the men鈥檚 S11 class with a time of 56.15 seconds. With a successful Para swimming career under his belt, Snyder looked to a new challenge in 2018. With the Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020 just around the corner, Snyder began triathlon training. Competing in various events both at home and abroad, Snyder found immediate success, securing a bronze medal at the 2018 Sarasota-Bradenton CAMTRI Paratriathlon American Championships, followed by another bronze at the 2019 Yokohama ITU World Paratriathlon Series. In the same year, he added a bronze medal from the 2019 Banyoles ITU Paratriathlon World Cup and the 2019 Sarasota-Bradenton CAMTRI Paratriathlon American Championships. His success was showcased at Tokyo 2020 as he brought home gold in the individual PTVI, with a time of 1:01:16 in his first-ever appearance as a Paralympic triathlete. In 2021, Snyder once again clinched gold at the Americas Triathlon Para Championships in Pleasant Prairie. Snyder went on to write a memoir with Tom Sileo titled Fire in My Eyes: An American Warrior’s Journey from being Blinded on the Battlefield to Gold Medal Victory, and he was appointed to the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee鈥檚 Board of Directors as an Athletes鈥 Advisory Council representative in 2019.
